Ryan is joining the team with a rich background in technology and business, and we could not be more excited to have him join the team. Ryan has some significant projects he is tackling to launch BitLoft and Player One Esports to the next level, and his experience, poise, and entrepreneurial spirit have given the entire team confidence in his vision.
Ryan has an insatiable curiosity in general, and especially regarding the inner workings of businesses and the “why” and “how” behind the decisions and revenue models. We were excited to turn the tables and ask Ryan some questions for a change.
Welcome to the team, Ryan — we’re glad you’re here!
Below is a quick Q&A to get to know Ryan.
What’s your background?
My career before BitLoft has been diverse, but a common thread has been balancing a focus on the big picture while also digging into and understanding the smallest of details to help make businesses a success.
I spent the bulk of my career as the Vice President of Sales & Marketing for a commercial underwriting firm specializing in providing insurance to large trucking fleets. Along with the sales efforts and establishing new distribution strategies, I also worked closely with actuaries and underwriters to ensure rate adequacy and profitability. Additionally, I led several enterprise-grade software implementations. Ultimately, we were able to leverage technology platforms to grow the business to the point of a successful divestiture. More recently, I’ve spent the past few years learning an entirely new industry as a successful multi-unit franchisee for Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop with my brother Andrew Bonnell.
You are the Executive Vice President of Strategy; what does that mean you do?
I’m focused on how BitLoft can continue to position itself as a leading development partner in the Indianapolis market, including evaluating new services offerings and refining our market focus. Within our Player One Esports (P1E) business and facility in Carmel, I’ve been tasked with ensuring that we continue to be a leader in both professional and youth esports. The industry is relatively young, and we have a talented group of esports professionals along with deep experience in the space. I’m excited about the opportunity to be a market leader and innovator.
What are some things that feel unique about BitLoft so far?
Without a doubt, it’s the culture and the team that make BitLoft stand out. I am continually impressed with the caliber of work the entire organization creates and the level of expertise of the creative designers, developers, marketers, and videographers.
What emerging technology are you most excited about? Why?
- Virtual Reality — It’s been talked about for a long time, but the technology is really here for it to become more prevalent and relevant for all types of businesses.
- Wearables — I love my Apple Watch, and I’ve seen firsthand how wearable devices can impact behavior and provide health insights in a way most consumers have never had before. I anticipate a lot of exciting and specialized advancements in this space in the next year or two.
What are your most used mobile apps?
Facebook, LinkedIn, NY Post, MapMyRun, and MyFitnessPal are my go-to apps.
How do you spend your time outside of work?
I live in Carmel; however, I have a cabin and some land down in Owen County, and I try to embrace the outdoors whenever I’m not in front of a screen. Whether I’m enjoying the woods, hunting mushrooms, riding ATVs, or sitting around a campfire, the outdoors is where I recharge alongside my wife, Dawn. I also have a son who is in college and a daughter in diapers, as well as two German shepherds.
